Scarlet Bennett is a jewellery and metal artist located in Canberra, Australia.
Growing up in country Western Australia, surrounded by extraordinary landscapes, Scarlet loves the textures and organic forms in nature, and when she’s looking for inspiration, she heads outside.
Scarlet has been a ‘maker’ her whole life. She discovered her passion for silver and coppersmithing in 2011, and she has created unique handmade pieces in her Canberra studio ever since, delving into other media, such as clay and resin, to create complex, mixed media designs. She has even made wearable jewellery using hardware store materials - washers and ball bearings, for instance, - to create an industrial line that was affectionately known as her ‘Bunnings Collection’. She taught coppersmithing at Tharwa Valley Forge in 2018-19 and plans to run classes again in the post-covid world.
An advocate of handmade, local and sustainable craftsmanship, Scarlet uses 100% recycled Australian silver and other refined metals. She chooses the most environmentally sustainable materials at every decision point, sourcing materials such as bio-resin which is made with certified sustainable ingredients, and upcycling wherever possible (see the upcycled vintage teaspoon pendants in her gallery as an example).
In her spare time, Scarlet loves running outside in nature, especially when it’s raining.
Scarlet’s shop is offline at the moment as she develops new product lines in advance of a relaunch later this year. She continues to work on commission during this time so do get in touch.
